There are two types of parquet: hardwood parquet and engineered wood flooring. The engineered flooring and the hardwood parquet share common features such as durability, excellent acoustic, insulation capabilities as well as their ability to be renovated on various occasions. However, these two floors differ in many aspects: for example, laying engineered flooring is easier. The major difference between an engineered floor and a hardwood parquet floor is in the construction of these two floors. As a matter of fact, the manufacture and the structure of the two wooden floors are different.
The engineered wood flooring is composed of two to three layers of wood. Each of these layers has multiple qualities and specifications.
The top layer of the engineered flooring is most of the time a varnished layer, which makes maintenance easier and enhances the durability. The varnish covering of the engineered wood flooring is made to harden the top of the plank, making it highly resistant to shocks and scratches but also to dirt and wear in general. However, this layer is optional and not present on all engineered wood flooring.
The noble wood layer is the visible part of the flooring; it is what gives the floor its appearance. It is extremely difficult to differentiate engineered flooring from a hardwood parquet floor since these two floors have the same appearance. The surface of engineered parquet is made of very good quality 3.3mm parquet. The top layer of engineered flooring must be at least 2mm and not more than 6mm thick. It is also called wear layer and can be sanded if the renovation of the floor is needed. The engineered flooring generally cannot be sanded more than 5 times. The softwood core of the floor is a layer of wood that is more flexible than the facing. It is this layer which ensures overall stability to the floor. The supporting layer is the lower part of an engineered floorboard, which prevents the parquet from wiggling.
Hardwood parquet floors are the most durable and resistant offering exceptional comfort and can be sanded multiple times.
The hardwood parquet is composed of a single piece of noble wood. The board is entirely made of the same wood throughout its thickness. The hardwood parquet is thus a noble covering and exclusively composed of pure and authentic wood.
A hardwood parquet board has a thickness that varies between 10 and 25mm and can be renovated several times extending its extremely long life. The hardwood floor, made of 100% noble wood, is sold sanded or pre-sanded: In most cases massive parquet is treated in the factory and ready to be installed as soon as it leaves the factory. They can be varnished, oiled, waxed, brushed, aged, the possibilities are practically infinite making your wooden floor unique and rich. The hardwood parquet floors are authentic, rustic and warm, taking you back to the old days of our grandparents where the wood was at the heart of every home.
Depending on the type of wood, the hardwood parquet floor carries you into a cosy and soft universe, full of memories and good times.
Noble wood layer: it is the layer of the engineered wood floor that is composed of 100% wood.
